Barcelona Cathedral Opens Its Cloister for St. George’s Day
Open House on April 23 to Celebrate a Special Day with the Public
Barcelona, April 13, 2026.
The Cathedral of Barcelona will celebrate St. George’s Day with a special feature: an open house in the cloister on April 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The initiative invites the public to experience this emblematic festival in one of the most unique spaces of the Cathedral complex. With this initiative, the Cathedral Chapter aims to bring the Cathedral’s heritage closer to the public on one of the most significant dates of the calendar.
Throughout the day, visitors can access the cloister through the Santa Eulàlia Gate, from Bishop’s Street.
Books and Fountain Decoration
The cloister will be the setting for the St. George’s Day celebration, with the fountain—where the saint’s image is located—adorned with roses in keeping with the tradition of the day. The St. George’s Day fountain is decorated only twice a year: for St. George’s Day and for Corpus Christi, when it hosts l’Ou com balla.
Another new feature will be the installation in the cloister itself of a book sales area for Cathedral publications, edited by Publicacions de la Catedral. The cloister stand will offer a cultural program linked to the history and heritage of the temple for anyone looking to give a book as a gift.
Additionally, this year’s opening of the cloister coincides with the traditional La Rambla book stalls moving location due to construction, with some of them being set up in front of the Cathedral.
Religious Services
As on every weekday, there will be Masses in the Chapel of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 12:00 pm.
At 6:45 pm, Vespers will be held, followed at 7:15 pm by the Conventual Mass, which will feature the participation of the knights of the Constantinian Order, whose patron is St. George. Afterwards, a corporate visit to the chapel of the Saint will take place.
